Lichfield Cricket Club
Travelling with a squad of 15 players and 19 supporters, Lichfield Cricket Club u18s came on a 14 day cricket tour to Kenya in August 2009 that included six fixtures: three in Nairobi, one in Nakuru and two in Mombasa. Based at Nairobi Club, they played their opening match against a Kongonis Development XI at Nairobi Club before heading to Greensteads School in Nakuru for their 2nd fixture. The next four days were spent on safari with a night in Lake Nakuru National Park, home of a million lesser flamingos and two nights in the Maasai Mara during the famous wildebeest migration. After an unforgettable safari during which they saw leopard, lion, cheetah and elephant besides following the huge herds of zebra and wildebeest, they returned to Nairobi for two further fixtures against Nairobi Provincial U18s. An overnight train journey brought them to the white sandy beaches of Mombasa where they played final two fixtures against the Coast Cricket Association u18s. At the end of the tour presentation, all agreed that the Kenyan experience combining competitive cricket, diverse cultures, spectacular countryside, magnificent wildlife and warm hospitality, surpassed all expectations and made for a memorable tour to be repeated in the future.
